2012 was very full of ups and downs. We had some amazing times and some very hard things to deal with. All in all it was a good year but I am looking forward to starting new with 2013. I am looking forward to seeing what this new year will bring for our new family.
In late Dec. of 2011 we found out that after 6 months of trying we were pregnant with our second child!!! I can't tell you how excited I was as this was a bit of an ordeal for us. It's amazing how much you can want something and how frustrated you can become when that doesn't happen right away!!
So we stared out January 2012 on a hi note. It was a pretty uneventful month...well actually not we had a huge snow and ice storm. It was so amazingly beautiful and eery at the same time. Power was out but on the up side Leyton got to make his first snowman with daddy!!!
We also went to Tacoma and made a teddy bear for the new baby. That is something Trent and I had done for Leyton while I was pregnant with him. Leyton also got to help load the stuffing machine. He thought that was so cool!!
February brought a weekend get away to the beach in Westport, WA for Trent and I and a weekend in Bellingham for Leyton with Grammy and Papa. We love our couples weekends we have made it a tradition to go away for a weekend as a couple. It is so fun to get away and just do what we want without kiddos to worry about. Leyton loves his time with Grammy and Papa and also with Auntie Tia and Uncle Rock. He got to go to the touch tank and loved it!!!

March was
it bit more laid back not much going on just day to day. April however
was a very busy month for us. I started out the month doing the MS walk
here in Olympia with a few of my cheerleaders. We also travelled to
North & South Dakota to see my family. Leyton loves being out there
and I was great to see everyone. We spent time at the aquatic center
and playing with Grandma and Grandpa. It was unseasonably warm so we
also got to spend a lot of time outside. Leyton showed us all that sand
angels are possible.
Unfortunately
Leyton experienced a first while there...throwing up. He didn't like
and neither did anyone else as the week went through the bug had gotten
everyone in the family pretty good. Let me just say that being sick and
throwing up while pregnant and taking care of a 2 year old who is just
as sick and just wants to lay on you was not the highlight of my trip
but it was something we will never forget.
We
also spent time in South Dakota with my grandparents and got to reminisce
with them about old times. It was great to hear about some of the
things they did when they were my age...well younger really. Then we
headed for Long Valley where we were able to celebrate Easter with my
sister and her family before heading home.
The
highlight of Easter for Leyton this year was the "Easter bunny trashing
Auntie Jenny's house". The tradition for their family is that the
Easter bunny throws candy all over their living room and then trails it
to the kids' beds. When they wake up they get to clean up all the candy
before opening their Easter baskets. Probably the most excited I have
ever seen my son to clean. It was really fun and so great to have
Leyton spend the holiday with his cousins as that is how I spent so many
holidays.
After we headed home we had a gender reveal party for the new baby. Had a few friends over to celebrate with us. It was very fun we had cupcakes filled with the appropriate color frosting. I also had a big box with balloons in the appropriate color. We let Leyton open the box for the big reveal. And if you can't tell by the pictures we are having another boy!!!
The festivities didn't stop there though we also had Leyton's birthday to celebrate. We had a fun Cars birthday party here. We had a pinata and bean bag toss into an old tire. e also had a soccer party in Bellingham so that Trent's family could come. He had a ton of fun and was very spoiled.
May started out great with a trip to the beach at Westport again with friends for Cinco de Mayo. My friend Amanda and here husband Shawn and son Andrew came with us. The boys big and little had a great time as did I and Amanda. We spent time on the beach and it was great just being together. While we were there however I got a call from Linda the mom of the kids I have nannied for for 10 years to tell me that they found out they were being transferred to TN in 8 weeks. One of the not so great times of the year. I tried very hard for it to not put a damper on the weekend though and we had a great time with the Cuthberts.

Life doesn't seem to slow down for us ever. June brought more fun times. We had a few yard projects that Trent and Leyton worked on. The dead grass got torn out and we put down blocks to lengthen our patio. On the side of the house we put down rocks and some bark for a play area for Leyton.
A couple weeks later I went to Walla Walla with my besties from high school for a weekend. It was so much fun!!! Krissy flew into Seattle so her and I had the whole drive over to chat and catch up. Once we got to Walla Walla Brittany, Carrie, LeeAnne, and Marie were waiting for us. Brittany and I were both pregnant and not able to drink so I think we had the best time laughing at our cute friends. We all fell back into our old routine with such ease and we found out that messing with a pregnant girls friends isn't a good idea. The girls were so sweet and threw Britt and I a little baby shower. So great to celebrate with them all since we don't get to do things like that very often.
We also took Leyton rollerskating for the first time. He wasn't so sure about the skating but loved the cotton candy for sure. We had fun and will go again for sure.

| Oh so good! |
July brought fun and tears all at the same time. We spend 4th of July as usual with friends in the neighborhood but this year was a bit bitter sweet as the Browns were moving a few weeks later. It was great to have on last big BBQ though. The fireworks were amazing as usual!!
Saying good bye to the Browns is probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. It was fun that I was able to spend a little time with the kids before they left though. Jared and I went with his friends to Grand Prix Raceways in Tacoma for some serious go karting and Leah and I had beautiful pictures taken with Kirsten. When it was time for them to go there wasn't a dry eye around. I know that there is some great purpose for this in all of our lives but I miss them tremendously every day!!!
Then end of July brought time for a family trip to the beach at Westport again. As you can tell this has become one of our favorite places. A friend of a friend has a house there that we like to rent out. I am hoping we will have many more times there. Trent's parents and sister and brother in law as well as my mom came with and we had a great time. Well almost perfect except for the massive sunburns that everyone but Trent, Leyton and I got. Note to self don't sit in the sun on the beach all day with out sunscreen even if "it didn't feel too hot."
We also had a great trip to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. We had never been there and Leyton loves animals so we went. 8 1/2 months pregnant and trucking through the zoo. Highlight of the day was Leyton scaring a monkey. Long story short Trent lifted him to a high part of the glass to see and the monkey was not expecting it.
Last but not least my mom along with a few great friends threw a baby shower to celebrate our new baby boy!!! It was a popcorn theme with ready to pop as the invite. It was so much fun and me and my little guy got very spoiled!! It was amazing to get together with great friends and laugh.
August was a wonderful month. We were so blessed by the healthy birth of our second son on August 17th. Logan Matthew Paul Shockey was born at 8:37 p.m. He weighed 7 lbs. 5.8 oz. and was 19 1/2 in. long. From the moment he was born he has been such a joy and easy baby. His big brother Leyton who says "I'm not a big brother I'm just Leyton" was so happy to have him here. It was a very fun time.

While all of that was going on I started my first season and the Franchise Head Coach for the TCYFL Olympia Bears Cheer. I had 81 girls and about 10 coaches to take care of this season. It was crazy but so so much fun!!
September was a big month for us having our new baby at home while our first baby started preschool. Before that though Grandma Ginger and Grandpa Howard came out to see our newest addition and we showed them our new favorite spot the beach at Westport.
Leyton is now going to preschool at Good Shepard on Tues. and Thurs. afternoons from 12:30-3pm. He loves it and wants to go every day. He made a good friend Carter. It's very funny that this is the same preschool that Nathan and Leah went to over 6 years ago.
The middle of September I also started a new nanny job for a couple who are in the Army and have a little girl only 6 days older than Logan. So it's like having twins. It is a great job and I am so excited to have found such a great family to work for yet again!! Leyton got to start staying home with daddy in the mornings and is loving having the extra daddy time.
October was very fun with a trip to see the Gies family in Moses Lake, our big cheer competition and end of the cheer season and Halloween. We did a lot of fun Halloween things like the pumpkin patch, carving pumpkins, Halloween parade, and carving pumpkins. It was a great month

November was a little more laid back with less to do. We had my cheer banquet and then got ready for Thanksgiving. Trent ended up having to work all of the holidays this year so we had thanksgiving at home with some friends and then went to his parents that following weekend. I had a great time setting a festive table and entertaining our friends with a low key dinner.

Then a couple trips to Bellingham to visit and for the Jingle Bell Run.
We also found a new light show called Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park that is amazing!!
Then we had my birthday and Leyton's preschool Christmas sing a long.
After that we headed north for our family Christmas in Bellingham. Trent, Jim and Leyton had a great time making a ginger bread house. I am not sure which of the three was more excited though.
Followed by Christmas fun opening presents, setting out cookies and milk, spreading reindeer food, and having friends visit. I think my favorite part of the holidays is starting new traditions with my boys. The Browns came home for Christmas as well as our good friends Kirsten and Emanuel all the way from Sweden.
